Scrap the 'Greatest Enforceable Risk' (GER) Policy for road safety decision making in New Zealand

Undertake a Royal Commission of Enquiry into ‘crash reporting' and 'crash causes' in New Zealand. Including the ‘Crash Analysis System’ (CAS) Database and ‘Traffic Crash Report’ (TCR).

Establish an independent 'crash cause' research organisation

Establish a new 'Road Safety Education' organisation. Road safety education display centres to be established in the main cities.

Dedicated road safety officers working for a stand alone organisation. To free up the Police for focusing on crime.

Introduce Specific Drowsy Driving legislation for those who drive while dogged tired’, as has been done successfully in Victoria, Australia.

At 80 years drivers to re-sit both their theory and practical license

All ages to re-sit their theory drivers license every 20 years after receiving their license.

Cell phone use penalty to be increased to $1000 + demerit points.

Inattention/preoccupation/distraction, including ‘Put it down’ road safety educational adverts to appear on television.

Driver fatigue (drowsy driving) including ‘micro-sleeping’ and countermeasures of ‘Power napping’ road safety education adverts to appear on television.

Introduce a ‘Roadside Saliva Drug Test’ without delay, using robust, overseas technology that has been proven to work and used in all states of Australia.

All crash causes detailed in the Traffic Crash Reports for each fatal crash to be published by the NZ Police bi-monthly in the media, for the public to view.
